ABOUT THE PLOT
Janghai Burgaast, a part of protected area of Hovsgol Lake National Park, is 28 km from Khatgal and 12 km from Jankhai Pass. This part of the national park lakeshore includes a few structures set up by the Bayartsogt’s family. This is one of the families who lived in the area before the national park was established in 1986, and is allowed to remain living in the area free of charge. The land occupied by the plot is public, and park visitors are free to walk through the plot and enjoy the lake. The family built their summer house only recently in 2018 and before that they used to have a ger on the plot. And the annual Mongolia Sunrise to Sunset ultramarathon also passes through the plot.
Plot 9 has forests on the south and north, and the Grand Tourist Camp and Azura Tourist camp on the east. On the west there is a forest that goes up to the mountain. Upper side of the mountain a place called “Ikh Hulgai” which is sceric place to see the lake. People need to ride a horse to go to the “Ikh Hulgai”. West of the mountain has good horseback riding track.
The Burgaast spring flows through the Burgaastai valley and pours into Lake Hovsgol. Local people say the spring cures the gastric ulcer. Due to the high mountain slopes, Lake Hovsgol looks very beautiful from this point. Due to the distance from the road, there is less dust and noise. On the valley of this Burgaast, 11 families live next door. Family lives on the plot 9 and they do have livestock on the plot such yak and horse. This plot is very important to head of the house Bayartsogt because he was born on this exact spot.
BAYARTSOGT'S FAMILY
Bayartsogt’s family has been camping there for 30 years. His family is located 500 meters from the shore of the lake and 300 meters from the road. He and his wife B. Munkh-Dalai have two sons Tengis (11 yo) and Tergel (3 yo). Their morning starts with feeding the animals (cattle, horse and dogs) and milking their cows. They let their livestock graze in the mountains behind their summer place. With the expressed milk, they make delicious and hearty heavy cream, dried curd, and yogurt. walks 500 m to get fresh drinking water from the crystal clear Khuvsgul lake. When the winter comes, they move to their winter place located in Khatgal Village as their children need to attend their school and kindergarten.
