Plot 12

ABOUT THE PLOT

This part of the national park lakeshore includes a few structures set up by the Baatar’s family. This is one of the families who lived in the area in a ger before the national park was established in 1986, and is allowed to remain living in the area free of charge. The land occupied by the plot is public, and park visitors are free to walk through the plot and enjoy the lake. The house was built in 1989 and the fences were put up in 1991 in order to keep their animals from wandering away. And the annual Mongolia Sunrise to Sunset ultramarathon also passes through the plot. The family has been living on this land during summer time for the last 40 years and this part of the lake shore is named Jankhai Uvur Bunkhant, which is located within the Hovsgol National Park and 24 km from Khatgal village. Baatar’s family plot is surrounded by forest in the west and Hovsgol lake lays on the eastern side as well as having 15 neighbors nearby who are Khatgal villagers come to this land during summer time. Also, there is a resort called 2K and tourist camp Blue pearl are situated on the lake shore nearby. There is one shop operated only during summer.
The terrain is low-lying along the shores of the lake, with a forest edge only 200 meters from the shores of Lake Hovsgol. In summer, seagulls, partridges and ducks migrate to this part of the lake. To the west, the trees are sparsely about 100 meters, and further deep into the forest, the trees grow densely. On the plot, family doesn’t keep their livestock, only keeping one or two cows for milking. Family actually live on the plot 12.
