This is your chance to have a lasting impact on Lake Hovsgul National Park, one of the world’s natural treasures. Nomads have been attracted to the area for thousands of years, but tourists and modest tourist infrastructure have only been there for thirty of those years. Despite occupying an area larger than Yellowstone, Hovsgul National Park operates on a tiny budget. As a result, the park traditionally relies upon various NGOs for funding and operation of key functions. Budget shortfalls are even more critical after two years of pandemic.
For the first time, now there is an easy and fulfilling way for you to help with park conservation and management. Ecodevshilt’s “Adopt a km2” program connects sponsors from anywhere in the world with local nomadic families who serve as caretakers and advocates for a particular plot of land near the course of our annual ultramarathon.
The plots of land are slices of the most beautiful lakeshore on the planet. At the same time, these are difficult spaces of conflict between fragile ecosystems, tourist traffic, and nomadic subsistence herding.
In exchange for a fixed annual donation, sponsors are paired with a local family who commits to tell the story of the sponsored plot. Sponsors have the opportunity to be in direct communication with their caretaker families and receive regular updates. All funds go directly to Ecodevshilt’s innovative sustainable waste management project at the park.
Your sponsorship will make a huge difference and sponsors are honoured accordingly. We begin your annual sponsorship by sending you a photograph of the caretaker family standing next to a wooden plaque inscribed with your name and posted on the plot, like a small hiking trail sign. Then the family will begin their journey of blogging about the land they love. We hope this becomes a long and meaningful relationship between yourself and one of the world’s last ecological treasures, but there is no binding commitment for you to sponsor more than a year. Ecodevshilt will be there every step of the way, supporting you and the caretaker family, while at the same time, making sure our sustainability program delivers what is promised for everyone.
